Why this work?
In my program proposal, I established four goals.
-
To learn advanced techniques for reporting and how to approach different types of reporting.
-
Push me out of my comfort zone by finding unique stories to report on, interviewing people outside my social network and extending my skills outside of the classroom to a community application.
-
Intersect these skills with my previous interests in design work, videography, and visualization.
-
Use all of these skills and apply them to help my local community by reporting important issues or helping a nonprofit organization help my community make informed decisions. These communicated issues would hopefully help uplift underrepresented and minority voices in my community.
I am pleased to see in my portfolio how I have made strides and met all my goals. I demonstrate this in pieces like a broadcast video on local Madison artists trying to grow the impact of the midwestern rap music scene or designing digital graphics for a nonprofit on the effect of internet voting would have on election security. Through writing, design and video work, I have reported on issues new and essential to me while supporting the communications efforts of important organizations within my community.
Thanks for exploring my work.
